Given this very broad range of ways in which we can be active, there is no single department, agency or organisation that currently develops, promotes and delivers all areas of physical activity.
Partnership working is increasingly being seen as vital in delivering appropriate and effective responses to a range of health problems and issues.
The main focus of attention with partnerships for health is on building a closer collaboration between the NHS, local government, the voluntary, private and higher education sectors.
Taking into account the broad and varied agencies involved (for example health, leisure and recreation, sports development, education and transport), physical activity promotion provides an appropriate case where partnership collaboration would offer great potential.
The Physical Activity Strategy recommends that local community planning partnerships are given political support and sufficientresources to help them co-ordinate and put into practice actions to support the development of physical activity.
