Welcome to the Physical Activity and Health Alliance website.

We’ve made some big changes at the Physical Activity and Health Alliance website. This page introduces some of our new features, like tags and comments, and how to use them. To save you time and make the site work harder for you, use the house rules as a guide for your contributions and comments.

 

Looking for Information

You're looking for information, we want to help you find it, and we’ve built in different ways to search and explore the site.

  • Resources are the heart of the site. Use the resources tab to see everything: organisations, research, policies, projects, publications, and more.
  • Or, from any page in the site, use the search box to look for something specific.
  • The Subject A-Z tab will give you a list of all the labels we’ve used in the site.

 

Found too much?

Narrowing things down

Use the column on the left to filter your results and narrow things down. You can limit the results by type of resource, by subject matter, and geography. The numbers will show you how many results are in each category.

 

Features

We’re included lots of new features on the site, and hope you’ll find them useful.

Comments: let others know what you think

Share your thinking. Most of the pages in the site will be open for comments. Is there something in the resource that you found particularly relevant? Were you involved in this project? Have you worked with that organisation? Let us know what you think of the resource, suggest related information, ask questions, or share what you’ve learned from similar projects…it's over to you!

Stick to the house rules to help you get your point across. 

Tagging: make sure you and others can find the resource

We’ve added labels, that we call ‘tags’ to describe what the resource is, and what it’s about, but we’d like you to help us! Are you part of a special interest group or a local network? Help other people in the group find material you think is relevant by adding a shared tag (e.g. highlands or HEAT 3). If you are using more than one tag, you need to add a comma to separate the tags.

As with the “what is this about?” labels, clicking on a tag attached to a resource will give you a quick set of search results of other resources that have that tag too.

If you are part of a local network or special interest group, and would like a page of your own where you can share information and comments, please talk to us

Share this with a colleague

If you’ve found something that may be of interest to your colleagues, why not share it? You’ll see a few buttons on each resource to make this easier. You can share it directly by email, through a social bookmarking site like delicious, or through a network like Facebook. Just click on whichever of the icons you’d like to use.

If you found a resource useful, just click on this button on the top right of the page. It’ll help make it more visible in the site so that other people can find it.

 

Contributing

We encourage your contributions to the site, and welcome knowledge-sharing. But we do not guarantee to publish your submissions and we reserve the right to delete or refuse publication.

Please follow the general guidelines below, and be aware that we may delete your comments and other additions to the site if they are outside these. If you have any questions about these guidelines, please talk to us.

  • Remember that comments are visible to everyone who visits the site, and that this is a professional network site. If you want to contact the Alliance directly, please use the talk to us page.
  • Keep your contributions civil, relevant, constructive, and respect other people’s views.
  • Unlawful or objectionable content is not acceptable. We will not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia or other forms of hate-speech, or contributions that could be interpreted as such. We will not tolerate any potentially libellous or defamatory content, any material posted in breach of copyright, or any material which could put us in legal jeopardy.
  • We will remove any commercial or spam content. We particularly discourage commercial organisations from passing themselves off as individuals in order to post advertising messages or links.
  • You are welcome to use your real name, a nickname, or a sensible pseudonym for comments. Do not pretend to be someone that you are not; impersonation is not permitted. Do not use a vulgar or potentially offensive nickname. We will show the name you give with your comments, but not your email address.
  • Your comments will not be edited or changed, but we may delete them. If you provide your email address with your comment, we might contact you with questions or requests for more information, or for a rewritten version of your comments.
  • Your tags may be edited to make them as useful as possible for site users.
  • Views expressed by site users do not necessarily reflect or represent the views of NHS Health Scotland or the Physical Activity and Health Alliance. You can access other sites via links from the Alliance site, including user comments. These sites are not under our control, and we are not responsible in any way for their content.
