'Take Life On' Stakeholder Information

Information highlighting further activity planned for the Scottish Government 'Take Life On' campaign, which your local group may wish to become involved.

**Stakeholder pack now available - see below**

Background

After the success of the 2011 Take Life On campaign I wanted to let you know about the plans for 2012 activity. Last year showed improved awareness of the benefits of being more physically active, especially as a family.

The 2012 campaign will launch on 13th February 2012 supported by television, online and radio advertising. The campaign will remain focused on parents of children in the 7-11 year age group, informing them of the recommended physical activity guideline of 60 minutes daily for children, and the physical and psychological benefits of integrating regular physical activity into a child’s life.

To support the campaign on the ground, there will be 10 events held throughout the country (please see attached schedule below) where parents can find out more about why children need to be active and what is available locally to help them get moving more and enjoying a healthier diet.

How can I get involved?

We would like to offer an opportunity for the promotion of local projects. Please find (attached below) a form which should be completed if you wish to attend one of the events and promote a local project. Or if you would like any further information on the 60 minute challenge field activity, please contact Norma Gray or Charlotte Couser from Union Connect on 0131 625 6000.

As a professional working in the field of health improvement, sport and activity, we would appreciate your input into the national campaign and your feedback on how we can support your delivery at a local level.

If you would like to be involved in the local events or highlight a particular project, club or activity that is doing great things in your area, we’d love to hear from you.

We’d also like to hear about families that have already made a start in changing their lives, so if you are working with people who have started to Take Life On, please do let us know.

Partnerships

A promotional partnership with Lidl supermarket is also planned for early January 2012. This aims to show that healthy food can be inexpensive and easy to prepare. We want to help influence families to purchase healthier choices. Lidl will have healthy recipe cards, swap options and Take Life On signage throughout all 91 Lidl stores.

We will also be running a press promotion with The Sun newspaper, offering money off vouchers for healthy choices at Lidl (for items promoted within the recipe cards). This will involve distribution of over 700,000 leaflets and events in eight stores located in areas of multiple deprivation (please see attached schedule).

All this activity will be underpinned by a PR campaign with the media and online to raise parents’ awareness of the 60 minute each day and signpost the fun ways kids can enjoy a more active lifestyle, both indoors and outdoors.
