Promoting Physical Activity Amongst Adolescent Girls

Review of interventions to increase physical activity for adolescent girls.

Standiford Brown, A.  School of Nursing, University of Texas at Austin. (2009).

Review of physical activity interventions for adolescent girls.  12 interventions were reviewed, a number of the interventions had a positive impact on increasing physical activity, decreasing body fat and increasing psychosocial attributes. These interventions focused on a number of environmental, cognitive and physical factors.

The review can help to aid delivery of services to adolescent girls and increase this group’s participation.  Future interventions should aim to improve physical activity-related cognition affect and environment in order to generate lasting change in physical activity participation.
