Older People's Perceptions of The Factors That Affect Mental Well-being in Later Life

This study was commissioned by NHS Health Scotland with the aim of identifying the key factors which affect mental well-being in later life.

The study was undertaken in two stages by means of focus workshops, focus groups and depth interviews. Fieldwork was undertaken between June and August 2003. The objectives of the research were to briefly reflect on what mental well-being means to people in later life, to identify older peoples' perceptions of factors facilitating and acting as barriers to well-being in later life and to prioritise both facilitators and barriers to mental well-being in later life.
