Global Advocacy for Physical Activity

Global Advocacy for Physical Activity (GAPA) is focused on helping to achieve greater commitment and actions to maintain and increase levels of physical activity in all countries.

GAPA aims to provide interested stakeholders with communications and resources to help the development, dissemination and implementation of national policies, programmes and services that promote physical activity and health.

Global Physical Activity Advocacy

Promoting evidence based practice and the application of advocacy actions aimed at multiple levels:

  • Political advocacy
  • Media advocacy
  • Professional mobilization
  • Community mobilization
  • Advocacy within organizations

GAPA Core Strategies

Working with a wide range of organisations with direct and indirect interests in the promotion of physical activity. GAPA drives the physical activity agenda forward globally through five core strategies:

  • Disseminate physical activity information and evidence.
  • Advocate for the development, dissemination and implementation of national physical activity policies, action plans and guidelines.
  • Establish an agreed global physical activity and health charter.
  • Advocate for capacity building and the development of workforce training initiatives.
  • Advocate for strengthening regional networks and global collaboration.

In 2009, GAPA became the Advocacy Council of the International Society for Physical Activity and Health.
