Dance in Scotland

Scottish Theatre and Creative Scotland raising the profile of Dance in Scotland

Scottish Theatre and Creative Scotland have produced a report to raise the profile of Dance in Scotland, recommending changes and developments which strengthen and reinforce Dance's place in Scottish society.  Promoting Dance in Scotland is not just about art and cultural activities but also provides a wide range of benefits from health to social inclusion.

The report advocates that:

  • Everyone in Scotland should have access to a local dance activity
  • Investment in professional dance needs to be sustained to build new audiences for the future
  • All children should have access to high quality dance teaching in schools, particularly now that dance is part of the Curriculum for Excellence
  • More opportunities for specialist training and professional development are needed so that all our talented young dancers, including those with disabilities, can be nurtured and retained in Scotland.

There are two versions of the reports available.  The Full Report includes all references for the research and further information.  There is also a Summary Report available.

Both versions are available below this article.
