All Our Futures: Planning for a Scotland with an Ageing Population: Volume 1: Summary and Action Plan

The Scottish Government strategy outlining opportunities for older people in respect of health, support, opportunities, and active ageing.

By 2031 the number of people aged over 50 in Scotland is projected to rise by 28% and the number aged over 75 is projected to increase by 75%. All Our Futures sets out the Scottish Government vision for a future Scotland which will value and benefit from the talents and experience of its older people, enable and support their contribution to society and the economy, and address the barriers and challenges faced by older people.

The report addresses six priority areas, describes what the Government aims to do to address each one, and identifies what will be counted as success.

  • We will act to continue to improve opportunities for older people - to remove barriers and to create more chances for older people to participate and to be involved in their communities - as volunteers; through paid work; in learning, leisure, culture and sport.
  • We will act to forge better links between the generations
  • We will continue to act to improve the health and quality of life of older people
  • We will continue to improve care, support and protection for those older people who need it.
  • We will ensure that the right infrastructure is in place for a Scotland with an ageing population with housing, transport and planning progressively meeting the needs of all ages.
  • We will offer learning opportunities throughout life.

Addressing inequalities is central to the health provisions.
