After-School All-Stars: Providing Structured Health and Physical Activity Programs in Urban Environment

Review of intervention to increase physical activity levels in schools.

Report that describes widespread intervention in American schools that aimed to increase physical activity level.  The intervention was delivered in more than 400 schools to 72,000 pupils.  The target group was grade 6 to 8. 

Physical activity was delivered in the form of free play and structured activities, the provision of different types of activities is very important in order to engage with as many people as possible.  Guidelines for providing activities are provided.  Interaction between adults and children is emphasised.
