60 Minute Kid Evaluation Report

This report evaluates the impact of the 60 Minute Kid used by Fife Council to deliver the physical activity message to children.

The Fife 60 Minute Kid

Initially the 60 Minute Kid was developed as a logo or emblem appearing on materials used by Active Schools Co-ordinator’s (ASC’s) with parents, teachers and pupils. It has since been developed into a lifesize character, with the aid of a special suit, and the character regularly visits schools, clubs and leisure centres to promote daily physical activity to children.

This report evaluates the impact of the 60 Minute Kid by:

  • Assessing levels of awareness and interest in achieving 60 minutes of physical activity daily.
  • Establishing the children’s understanding of what contributes to physical activity e.g. walking to school as well as organised sports, PE, playing in the park.
  • Evaluating involved professionals (teachers and Active Schools Co-ordinators) perceptions of the impact of the 60 minute kid.
