Walking Football Festival 2015

The Spartans Community Football Academy held the first ever Walking Football Festival in Edinburgh on 7 June 2015.

Fifteen teams from across Scotland took part in the event – including squads from Inverness, Glasgow, Dundee, Annan, Ayr, Stenhousemuir, Midlothian, Galashiels and Edinburgh. There were also two teams from Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Players wore pedometers to count their steps – with almost a million steps taken during the games.

The event was hosted by The Spartans Community Football Academy and supported by Paths for All, SAMH, Age Scotland and the SPFL Trust.

Walking Football is a variation on association football aimed at keeping people over 50 involved with football if, due to a lack of mobility or for other reason, they are not able to play the traditional game. The key difference is that you are not allowed to run!
