Velocity - Women's Cycle to Health Scheme

An initiative helping women to improve their mental health through cycling has involved 20 participants since its launch in August this year.

The Women's Cycle to Health Scheme has been set up by Inverness social enterprise, Velocity.

Women can refer themselves, or ask their GP for a referral, to the project and group trips are offered twice a week free of charge over a four-week block.

Velocity now hopes to attract funding to expand the project to more than two days a week.

A spokeswoman for the project said: "We don't know of other projects that are targeted specifically at women with low confidence or poor mental health and we think that this puts a different slant on the project, and makes it more accessible to women."

"We'd love to be able to provide the option of running sessions every day and are currently looking at funding which we could apply for with this."

Velocity was started in 2012 and runs a bike workshop and cafe near Inverness city centre.
