Scottish Sport Benefits from Glasgow Games Legacy Boost

Sports’ memberships up, impressive engagement in community sport hubs, and phenomenal rise in qualified coaches.

The national agency for sport, sportscotland, has recently released figures which demonstrate that last year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games helped provide a significant boost for Scottish sport.

Projected figures show that, overall, there has been an 11 per cent increase in memberships of the 17 Commonwealth Games sports’ governing bodies over the past four years (2011/12 – 2014/15).

Many Scottish sports have registered encouraging membership increases during the four-year Glasgow cycle, including a 58% rise at Netball Scotland, a 49% growth at Scottish Triathlon, and a 37% increase at Scottish Gymnastics.
