Friendship Key To Securing Young Women’s Participation In Sport

Research by Street Games has found that friendship has a key role to play to drive sport participation in young women.

Key findings of this research include:

  • 63% of young women say they won't play sport or exercise without a friend by their side.
  • Since school, 44% of young women have rarely played any sport.
  • 77% of young women said the number one reason for playing sport would be to catch up with their friends.

The research is published alongside a guide which considers how friendship groups can influence and impact on successful physical activity programmes.

You can download the research report here.  For more information, visit the Street Games website.
