Teaching aids push active lifestyle to mark third Commonwealth Games anniversary

Teaching materials to encourage an active lifestyle are to be unveiled to mark the third anniversary of Glasgow's Commonwealth Games. Called the "Thrive tool kit", it will be promoted at six roadshows across Scotland by a group of ambassadors who encourage physical activity. This toolkit will be publicly available and will contain teaching materials and resources to allow as many people as possible to benefit from the learning gained from Legacy 14 projects. UK eyes up Commonwealth Games 2022 bid

The Government is calling on UK cities interested in hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games to work up plans for how they would stage the event. The UK Government will work with interested cities and the relevant Commonwealth Games Associations on a detailed assessment of whether Britain can step in to host the event in 2022 after it was announced last month that Durban in South Africa can no longer hold the games. This will include looking at important factors such as the economic benefits the Games could deliver to the UK - and to the host city or cities - through international trade, investment and tourism opportunities, and how potential host cities could benefit, as well as the necessary infrastructure and major event delivery experience that potential host cities have. Launch of Scotland's first National Physical Activity Implementation Plan

The nationwide campaign ‘Fit in 14’ launched today by Commonwealth Games and Sport Minister Shona Robison will encourage Scotland’s workplaces to get more active by making physical activity a part of their everyday lives. This campaign forms part of Scotland’s first ever National Physical Activity Implementation Plan, A More Active Scotland – Building a Legacy from the Commonwealth Games, which has been published on the PAHA website.

The Health and Sport Committee at the Scottish Parliament launched a survey looking at sport and physical activity in Scotland. People were invited to take part in a short survey on sport participation. The committee wanted to hear views on why people do/do not participate in sport or physical activity. The work is being done to examine the recent progress on sport participation in Scotland and to inform recommendations to ensure the Commonwealth Games legacy continues over the medium to long term.
